Mark Slawter was born and raised in Winston-Salem, N.C. before attending North Carolina State University from 1992-1996. He and his wife Ashley have resided in the Triangle area since graduating college. Currently they live in Wake Forest, N.C. where they are raising their daughter Aubrey (5), and son Anderson (1).
After a successful junior golf career, Mark enjoyed four years as a member of the North Carolina State Golf Team. His decorated college and amateur career including three First Team ACC All Conference awards, an NCAA All America Honorable Mention award, and a North and South Amateur title. In 2002 he was awarded a spot on the top 50 All-Time ACC men’s golf team.
In 1996 Mark began his career as a golf professional. Along the way he won 12+ events on six different tours including wins on the Canadian, Teardrop, and Hooters Tours.
His career was highlighted by a top five order of merit finish on the 2001 Canadian Tour. His 2001 campaign included a win and three top five finishes. He was awarded the “Rookie of the Year” award and Two PGA Tour exemptions.
One of Mark’s proudest accomplishments came in 1999 and 2000 when he successfully navigated through both stages of US Open qualifying two years in a row (1999, 2000). In fact, in 1999 he was the only North Carolina resident to be in the field at Pinehurst #2. He often reflects on those two experiences and says he learned invaluable lessons after playing on golf’s biggest stage.
In 2002 he returned to the Raleigh area and began a career as a teaching professional and assistant golf professional. He spent two and half years at Heritage Golf Club where he shared his golf knowledge to members, guests, and golfers of all abilities.
Now a reinstated amateur Mark still remains competitive. In fact, he recently finished runner-up in the 2009 Carolinas Mid-Amateur championship after losing in a playoff.
Mark is excited about his opportunity to share his experiences and knowledge with junior golfers who aspire to play college golf and beyond. He invites you to contact him today to learn more about Straight Shot to College Golf and how it may help your future college golfer.
